Visiting the Azores Islands by Ferry

The nine islands of the Azores are all very unique and are filled with endless views of paradise. The islands are divided into three groups and vary in size and population significantly on all the islands. The largest and most populated island in the archipelago is Sao Miguel. From the capital, Ponta Delgada you can reach the other islands via a short airplane flight or by ferry. The quickest and most efficient way to visit the various islands is by plane, offered by Sata Air Acores, the regional division of Azores Airlines. In the past, it has always been expensive to travel between the islands and it was more comfortable for the population of the islands to travel via Ferry. The management of Azores Airlines has prioritized in recent years to make it more cost-effective for residents and tourists to travel between the nine islands at discounted rates. The deregulation of the Azorean airspace has allowed the monopoly that once existed with the regional airline Sata to be dissolved and allowed low-cost European airline carriers to fly into the Azores. This has added to a tourism boom since 2015. The ferry operator in the Azores is the Altânticoline, with their schedule changing in the spring and summer months to include travel between all islands. The ferry is a great way to enjoy the sea and sun while shopping onboard their various gift shops or having something to eat or drink in the lounge or reception area. Regular passenger and car ferry services are offered throughout the year, between the islands of Faial and Pico on the (Blue Line Boats). Between the islands of Faial, Pico, and São Jorge on the (Green Line Boats). From June to September, seasonal passenger transport between the islands of Faial, Pico, São Jorge, and Terceira are offered on (Purple Line Boats). There are scheduled passenger transport between Corvo and Flores’ islands, throughout the year, in the Ariel ship. Seasonal transport of passengers and vehicles from May to September, between ALL the islands (except Corvo), exists on the Express Santorini, and Hellenic Wind boats.
