Air Berlin, one of Germany’s most popular carriers has been flying to the island of Sao Miguel for a few years now and has begun service to Terceira island as of 2017. The existing weekly summer service to the archipelago’s capital, Ponta Delgada, will be expanded by an additional flight each week. There will be 1 nonstop flight per week from Dusseldorf to Terceira, the second-most populous island in the Azores, slowly adding more routes as demand increases. The Azores archipelago is popular with nature travelers, thanks to its unique flora and fauna. Outdoor enthusiasts and sports lovers rave about the gorge hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking. The island of Terceira is one of the Azores’ lesser-known destinations, offering sustainable, nature-focused tourism. The island makes an excellent base for discovering the other islands in the Azores by boat or for enjoying activities such as whale watching or exploring the various hiking trails. Its main attractions include the oldest town in the Azores; Angra do Heroísmo. This city dates back to the 16th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The most visited and populated island in the region is Sao Miguel and is by far the best way to go if you want to experience the Azores in a short period of time. However, all the islands have a unique charm, and time permitting should all be explored. Convenient connecting flights to the Azores are available from Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Vienna, and Zürich making it easily accessible during the spring and summer months.
