Description
The sweet potato was introduced to the island of Sao Miguel in the 15th century. Merchants from the indies brought with them sweet potatoes and when they arrived they gave them to the locals as a gift.
The residents of Villa Franca planted them in the mineral-rich soil and noticed its delicious flavor, especially once they added sugar.
This is a common jam to enjoy during the holidays as most families in the Azores serve it with cheeses and melon. A unique island sweet potato that is unlike anything you may have tasted in the past.
Although it may not sound like a breakfast jam this goes great on toast and with a dash of cinnamon it really brings out the flavor profile of this island sweet potato.
